Harnish Design

This is a collection of my work as a Visual Communications student at Herron School of Art & Design. My name is Cheryl Harnishfeger and nothing excites me more than to dream of ways that design thinking can improve our world.

More group work for NLBC of Indianapolis.

These sketches were presented along with several campaign concepts to help imagine how each campaign might be carried out.

Onyx Design Group consists of myself (Cheryl Harnishfeger), Rebecca Gleason, and Matt Market.

Group work.

This is what I’m working on right now.  My team is called Onyx Design Group, and we are working together to create a campaign and Visual Identity for the National Library Bindery Company in Indianapolis, IN.

I have a fine arts background, so I really love to hand make and pull it into my work. In my opinion, some times 100% computer generated work can be easily dismissed. Work that is more tactile makes the viewer feel a connection to the piece.

Storyboard for a Slow Food Indy stop motion video, along with stills from the actual piece.

Recently, I had the wonderful opportunity to work closely with Slow Food Indy to examine their organization inside and out. My goal was to find ways to enhance their strengths and minimize their weaknesses.

These images are from a stop motion video I made as an experience piece to motivate Slow Food Indy to remember who their real audience is and think big!

This is an idea for a McDonalds campaign.
The thought here is that if McDonalds planned on opening a new store in a location where they were less than welcome, one way to connect to the community would be to donate to a local urban garden. What you see is a mock-up of their logo made out of lettuce. The lettuce would be grown through a sculptural wire casing containing soil. This would be a living, breathing sculpture that not only advertises for their company in a very positive light, but promotes sustainability, healthy eating habits, and is a gift that keeps on giving.

This project involved taking two subcultures, combining them into one, creating an event revolving around that subculture, and then creating promotional materials for said event.

I chose to combine “horse girls” and “metal heads.”

Materials you see here are:

  • Trifold invitation
  • Label wrap for gift bottle of wine
  • Poster
  • Save the date mailer

A testament to sparklers.
